peephole art project in tsuyazaki

I’ve written a short story for Nozoki Ana ART Tsuyazaki (or Peephole Art in Tsuyazaki). It’s a townscape art project based in the small port town of Tsuyazaki in Fukutsu, Fukuoka. The town has a very rich history and is full of old folk houses. Visitors to the exhibition can look into peepholes in the back alleys and walls of the town, appreciate the art installed on the other side, and read and enjoy short stories related to the peepholes and art.

My story for the project is called ‘Directions’, which is inspired by the town and its residents. Visitors will be able to read and listen to the story in English as well as Japanese, thanks to the amazing Naoko Benom-Miura, who not only helped me with the details of the story but also generously translated it into Japanese – and narrated the audio version too. I’ve narrated the English version, which features music by Paul Smith, performed by Chronology Arts, with audio engineering by Echidna Audio.

The exhibition runs from 1 October to 26 November.
