I’ve written a new short story for Spinning Around: The Kylie Playlist, which is launching tonight.
For the anthology, 24 writers used a Kylie Minogue song as their creative springboard. The song ‘Everything is Beautiful’, written by Fraser T. Smith and Tim Rice-Oxley, inspired my contribution.
I’m indebted to Kenichi and Mai Eguchi of Ekadbo space, on whom the characters of Mr Eguchi and his wife are based. Here, Eguchi-san and his doll are reading my story accompanied by a special arrangement of higanbana.

Thanks to Fremantle Press and Georgia Richter, the anthology’s editors Angela Savage and Kirsten Krauth, Naoko Benom-Miura, Carey Benom, Craig Money, Satomi Hirohashi, Rioko Tega, Ian See, Paul Smith, Michael Camilleri, Christina Choi, the Oumaruya newspaper-reading workshop and all of my friends in Tsuyazaki.
