In 2001, I was part of the first cohort to study English Extension 2 for the HSC. For my major work, I wrote a short story which was published in the Young Writers Showcase anthology for that year and was later adapted as a short film. (One of the producers, Jiao Chen, had come across the story while reading the anthology in a Year 11 Chemistry class!)
Yesterday, at the invitation of the NSW Education Standards Authority, I met two of the talented authors whose work has been published in this year’s Young Writers Showcase and WriteOn anthologies. It was a pleasure chatting with Tabitha Sharp, who’s a fiction writer and film director, and Year 2 student Zoe White, a prolific writer who aspires to be a teacher. They and other writers were celebrated last night at the Student Literary Awards at the State Library of NSW.
