Samantha Memi‘s chapbook, Kate Moss & Other Heroines, has just been published by Black Scat Books as part of its Absurdist Texts & Documents series.
The chapbook includes Samantha’s short story ‘Bouffant’, which has previously appeared on this blog, and other gems like ‘Kate Moss versus the Millipede’.
Samantha sent me a surprise gift from the UK, just for buying her book:
Honey Loops, served as suggested:
You can buy a copy of Kate Moss & Other Heroines here. Be quick — this edition is limited to 50 copies.
Julie, if my stories were as good as your photographs they’d be delightful. Thank you.
Lovely cereal, worth buying the book for that alone
How awesome; I am on a little writing hiatus lately but it was wonderful to learn that Samantha had published a chapbook of short stories. I am a huge fan of Samantha and I once said to her that many of her stories are a little like haunted house rides; you never quite know what twists and turns are coming and suddenly some sly humor comes and hits you out of nowhere. 🙂 It takes a really brilliant writer to be able to take the reader on a journey like that.
One of her biggest strengths is creativity; my favorite of her stories was about the Titanic, but retold from the point of view of the icebergs. I don’t know if that is in this chapbook but wherever it is, I recommend that folks find it and read it. 🙂
Samantha is courageous in her writing and that’s what makes her stories special. She’s not afraid to push the envelope and when she’s feeling particularly risky she swallows the envelope whole. I learned a lot from reading her stories, specifically to not be afraid to tell the story I want to tell in the way I want to tell it. That type of freedom for a writer is essential for growth.
xxoo, Sam.
