portable curiosities sydney launch

Last Thursday’s launch of Portable Curiosities at Kinokuniya Sydney was a lot of fun. Thanks to everyone who came along.

My editor, Ian See, flew over from Queensland via Melbourne that day (and back), just to make me feel extra special. In his introductory speech, he explained how we first met in 2011 at the launch of The Sleepers Almanac No. 7, which included the first short story I’d published in Australia after quitting law to become a writer. That first meeting was the start of a beautiful friendship that ultimately led to the publication of Portable Curiosities with UQP. Ian paid tribute to the incredible work of Sleepers Publishing in championing the short story in Australia.

Patrick Lenton very kindly launched the book, and delivered this very flattering speech.

These photos from the night are by Eric Macdonald of Same Love Photography. LR Party Hire provided the Cream Reapers. The neon sign was custom-made by Electric Confetti, based on Josh Durham‘s cover. My dress is by The Rushing Hour, which donates a slice of money from each item sold to fund a girl’s education for one month.
